2018 Ford Driving Dreams

In 2018, eight LULAC Councils were selected to receive $20,000 each over two-years to implement a local dropout prevention program in partnership with an educational entity. In addition, two veteran LULAC Councils (grantees from 2016-2018) were selected to receive additional funding for the continuation of their exemplary programs for a third academic year.

Washington, D.C. - LULAC Council #11041

District of Columbia- Maryland

LULAC Council #11041 is working with Fundación Elena to ensure that Latino students in Prince George’s County receive academic resources they would otherwise not have access to. The highly regarded dance school, Fundación Elena, supports underserved Latino students in Prince George’s Country and with the Council, they hope to blend college preparation and cultural enrichment activities. They will draw on Hispanic traditions, focusing on serval key traits – strength, perseverance, imagination – to help cultivate student success and eliminate barriers to reach high school graduation through community and civic engagement.

Hispanic Heritage Month 

Our students were put to the test when they performed in front of a 300+ audience at Bowie Theater for the Performing Arts in Sept 2018. They used the skills and choreography they learned during Wednesdays and Friday 1.5 hr practice. See more pictures in our gallery. 

Fiesta DC 2018

Students participated in the annual Fiesta DC Festival/Parade in Washington, DC- representing Mexico, 1 of 15 Latino Countries. See more pictures in our gallery. 

Wednesday's-Focus Improvement & Work Study

Students will learn brain exercises using musical instruments. Study shows that this activity helps people improve on different elements of the brain like focus, memory, and strengthening. Students also take their homework to work o and are tutored by UM students. 

Friday's- Dance/Cultural History & Exploration

Students get to explore and learn about Mexican history from any of the 31 states of Mexico and get to learn their traditional dances, traditions, foods, local architectures, etc.
